Listening spiritual presentation does not mean that you are doing any good deed!!

I watched ‘Taare Zamin Paar’ movies yesterday and encouraged me to write this article. I have been chewing on this topic for long time now. When I was doing summer internship at BARC, Mumbai, my ex-supervisor, Prof. Dr. SLM, during one of discussions mentioned that, ‘Aap aachi bate sunane se koi aacha kaam nahi kar lete’, i.e., you do not necessarily do any good by only listening to good things. Actions are more important than anything else. It’s been many years but still I remember it clearly.

In the movie it shows that people, including the child’s parent, are not focusing on improving and helping the poor child, but they are waiting for some miracle to change him. They are millions of people in India and in the world, who are spending lot of money and time for spiritual purposes, but not giving a helping hand to someone in need! I am not trying to say that being spiritual is bad, but I really wish that if people try to help in their capacity, this world will be a wonderful place to be. Like it said, help in need is help indeed!
