Trip to Orlando, FL, US. May 06.

I was visiting Orlando, FL for SPIE conference. It is really such a big cultural difference between India, Europe and US. The entire trip went quite well. In the beginning I was busy and alone but went along well by talking to many people; later I was joined by my friend Raquel and Christophe and a senior scientist Torsten May. The only difference I found is, all the people are really friendly but I had difficult time to understand how genuine they are! I talked with some of my friends from India who have been in US for few years now but their approach is not changed. I met one friend from US whom I met in Germany last year, it was same, very friendly approach but there was always a question how genuine it is! Yesterday I had a long lunch with my friend Manolis, he was in Chicago for long time and we started discussing the same topic. On my same questions his answer was ‘who cares, in US at least they give wishes even if they don’t mean it but in Germany they don’t mean it, they don’t say it.’ I found his point to be true but is it good or bad? Perhaps it depends on personal taste, somehow when I talk with my other friends I feel they mean what they say but I lacked this feeling in US. On the way back, I was accompanied by 9 month old Helena, a sweet little laughing angle. As soon as she and her mother took seat next to me, she started throwing toys at me and we got to know each other; leading to a very eventful journey back. All my blessings to her!

Quota conflict in India.

There has been lot of protests against the quota issue. The background is the current national government leaded by Congress party increased the quota from 27 % to 47 %. There has been lot of controversies about it but I think Congress party is really clever. They exist from the British time so they have learned how to implant the ‘divide and rule’ policy. I really think that the India is progressing so ideally they should decrease the quote which can be taken as discrimination and equalize the social system. The quota system should be phased out slowly and form an equal social system. With increase in the quota system, they want to make the differences between people and make lot of votes out of it. The people to blame are us! We elected such a party who has little idea about what they are doing and refusing to change according to changing world. Just imagine, if we make this rule compulsory for private sector then eventually all the companies will want to move out and we will end up where India started 60 years ago! But this all does not mean that the opposition parties are good, they have kept silence and letting people to fight because both the situations are favorable to them!
